Product Description

Product Description

It is colorless transparent viscous liquid with sweet taste and moisture absorption capability. It is also miscible with water, low-grade aliphatic alcohols, glycerol, acetic acid, acetone, ketones, aldehydes, pyridine and similar coal tar bases. It is slightly soluble in ether but almost insoluble in benzene and its homologues, chlorinated hydrocarbons, petroleum ether and oils.

Storage:
1. Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. It should be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and avoid mixing storage. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials. Due to its strong hygroscopicity, it should be stored in a sealed manner, and long-term storage should be sealed with nitrogen gas. Can be stored in containers made of iron, soft steel, copper, or aluminum. However, coated steel, aluminum, or stainless steel containers are suitable for long-term storage.

2. The ethylene glycol container should be labeled with the word "toxic" to prevent accidental ingestion and inhalation of ethylene glycol vapor. Operators should wear protective equipment and undergo regular physical examinations, especially urine routine tests.
When stored, it should be sealed, and long-term storage should be nitrogen sealed, moisture-proof, fireproof, and antifreeze. Store and transport according to regulations for flammable chemicals.

Product Application

Ethylene glycol is mainly used to prepare antifreeze agents for automotive cooling systems and to produce polyethylene terephthalate (a raw material for polyester fibers and polyester plastics). It can also be used to produce synthetic resins, solvents, lubricants, surfactants, softeners, humidifiers, explosives, etc.

Ethylene glycol can often be used as a substitute for glycerol and is used as a water-based agent and solvent in the leather and pharmaceutical industries, respectively.

Ethylene glycol has strong solubility, but it is prone to metabolism and oxidation to produce toxic oxalic acid, so it cannot be widely used as a solvent.

Adding ethylene glycol to hydraulic fluid can prevent oil-based hydraulic fluid from corroding the rubber in the system; Water based hydraulic fluid mainly composed of ethylene glycol is a non combustible hydraulic fluid used in molding machines for aircraft, automobiles, and high-temperature operations.

Ethylene glycol has many important derivatives. Low molecular weight polyethylene glycol (also known as ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol) is actually a byproduct of the hydration of ethylene oxide to produce ethylene glycol. Diethylene glycol can be used as a wetting agent, plasticizer, sizing agent, printing ink solvent, natural gas dehydration desiccant, and aromatic hydrocarbon extraction solvent. Diethylene glycol dinitrate, similar to ethylene glycol dinitrate, is also an important industrial explosive.

High molecular weight polyethylene glycol is a useful derivative that varies in molecular weight, ranging from colorless, transparent, viscous liquids to waxy solids. Used as a lubricant, moisture retention agent, solvent, and intermediate in the rubber and food industries, as well as in the formulation of cosmetics and additives in textile, papermaking, and other fields.

There are many types of esters of ethylene glycol, which are widely used as solvents. Ethylene glycol esters of long-chain fatty acids have surface improvement properties and can be used alone or in combination with surfactants as emulsifiers, stabilizers, dispersants, humidifiers, foaming agents, and suspension agents.

Ethylene glycol reacts with urea to produce cyclic ethylene urea, which is used in the textile industry. Ethylene glycol disodium reacts with 1,2-dibromoethane to form dioxane, which is a special solvent.

Use different oxidants or reaction conditions for ethylene glycol. After oxidation, ethanal, glyoxal, glycolic acid, oxalic acid, etc. can be obtained.
